Land clearing in Gillespie County starts with reading the ground. The county sits on the Edwards Plateau, where shallow, clayey soils cover the limestone hills and deeper ground follows the Pedernales River and the larger creeks. Live oak, shin oak, cedar and native browse often share the same ranch, so one tract outside Fredericksburg can need three different approaches.

Most of what we do here is ranch and Hill Country acreage: homesites and drives near Fredericksburg and Stonewall, cedar crowding pasture and oaks around Harper and Doss, and fence lines, ranch roads and wildlife openings on the bigger places. Jordan LaVine walks the property with you before anything is priced.

Limestone hills and Pedernales bottoms

Up on the hills the soil is shallow and clayey over limestone, and it washes quickly once it’s bare. That’s why forestry mulching, which leaves a protective layer on the ground, fits so much Gillespie County work.

Down along the Pedernales River and the major creeks the soil runs deeper and carries more grass and pasture. That ground clears, drains and recovers differently, so we plan it as its own piece of the job.

One ranch, several different jobs

A ranch road, a homesite, a fence line and a wildlife opening each need a different approach, often on the same property. The Tigercat M726G suits open, cedar-heavy acreage, the Timberpro TL725C and the Cat D1 dozer mulcher handle steep, rocky or tight spots, and hand crews do chainsaw work around the oaks you’re keeping.

Permits, oak wilt and burn bans

Requirements depend on the parcel. City limits, floodplain, protected-tree and watercourse rules can all apply, so confirm current requirements with the relevant local authority and tell us what you’re planning when we walk the land.

With this much live oak and shin oak, we follow Texas A&M Forest Service oak wilt guidance: no wounding oaks February through June, and any wound painted right away. Mulching doesn’t depend on a burn window, so a county burn ban doesn’t stall the work.

Questions

Clearing land in Gillespie County: common questions

Still wondering about your property? An owner will answer it on site.

(512) 890-2555
How is land clearing priced in Gillespie County?

It comes down to what’s on your land: how thick the brush is, the terrain, access, and how much material there is to process. An owner walks the property, looks at the ground with you, and gives you a free estimate and a schedule built on what’s really there.

Do I need a permit to clear land in Gillespie County?

It depends on the property and the work. City limits, floodplain, protected-tree, watercourse and other local rules can apply. Confirm current requirements with the relevant local authority before work begins, and tell us what you’re planning when we walk the property so the plan fits.

When is the best time of year to clear land in Gillespie County?

Mulching works year-round, but weather and soil moisture affect access and rutting. Where oaks are involved we follow Texas A&M Forest Service guidance and avoid wounding them from February through June. We plan the schedule around your ground, the trees you’re keeping and current burn-ban rules.

Do you clear homesites around Fredericksburg and Stonewall?

Yes. We clear homesites, drives and build pads on Hill Country acreage around Fredericksburg, Stonewall, Harper and Doss. The plan protects the trees and natural features you want to keep, and where limestone gets in the way of a pad or drive, we can crush it in place for base.

Can you clear cedar off ranch land around Harper and Doss?

Yes. We handle cedar and brush on pasture, ranch roads, fence lines and open acreage. We can clear selectively around live oak and shin oak, or mulch heavier growth in place, depending on the ground and what you want the ranch to look like afterward.

Can you clear land during a Gillespie County burn ban?

Forestry mulching grinds brush in place instead of making burn piles, so the work doesn’t depend on a burn window. We still follow current county rules and confirm the planned method during the site visit.
